Sculptural Works from Fall 2012 - Clay Head Sclpture

This sculpture was made from clay over a Styrofoam base. I sculpted my own head first, and then removed the senses of the sculpture one by one. the sight is entirely gone and the ears are being absorbed into the form.

Sculptural Works from Fall 2012 - Soft Scultpure

These two works are sewn, plush versions of famous minimalist sculptures by Robert Morris and Carl Andre. They are both small in contrast to the original works. In this work I was creating a feminine version of their works (which sit in a very masculine area of art) which can easily become a commodity or children's toy.Viewers were encouraged to hold the forms and play with them. The Robert Morris L Beams were made from a very soft, tactile material and the Carl Andre work was made from playful, feminine material.

Past Project Sunday, Sonic Screwdriver

In order to populate my blog I'll be posting an old project every Sunday until I run out of easily accessible paintings and drawings from the past.
This is a part of that, enjoy!

So this is my drawing of a sonic screwdriver. For Doctor Who fans it is the Tenth Doctor's screwdriver specifically. I was introduced to Doctor Who with the new series and David Tennant will always be my favourite.

It's a very large drawing, you can see it being held at chest height by a friend in this image, I'd estimate it at over 4 ft long.

And here are a couple of detail shots.

I'm incredibly fond of this drawing. My problem is I just don't know how to frame or hang it! I don't want it to smudge but I can't afford to frame something so large behind glass. So far I'm toying with the idea of hanging with clear plastic in front, but it isn't a fleshed out solution yet.

Anyways, hope you like.

Past Project Sunday, Telephone Wires

In order to populate my blog I'll be posting an old project every Sunday until I run out of easily accessible paintings and drawings from the past.
This is a part of that, enjoy!
This is a painting I did of telephone wires on a cloudy day.

The painting is only a few inches high on a large canvas, and was painted with the smallest brushes I owned along with toothpicks and even a single brush bristle. It was a lot of fun to do.
